Job in Greek
δουλειά
doulia — job
Hear δουλειά
Δουλειά (doulia) means both the job you hold and the work you are doing, so πάω στη δουλειά is going to work and έχω δουλειά is being busy. Stress the last syllable, dou-LIA. The plural δουλειές often means chores or errands rather than jobs.
Move the stress one syllable back and you land on a different word. Δουλεία, stressed dou-LI-a, means slavery. The two are spelled almost identically and separated in speech only by which syllable you lean on, which is a good reason to get Greek stress right early.
To praise someone's work, Greeks reach for μπράβο rather than a translation of "good job". Καλή δουλειά exists and is used, though it sounds more like a manager's appraisal than a friend's reaction.
Example sentences
Πάω στη δουλειά.

Vrike kainouria doulia.
He found a new job.
