How the converter works
The converter maps Latin characters to their Greek equivalents using the standard
romanisation conventions for Modern Greek. Multi-character combinations like th, ch and ps are recognised as single Greek letters (θ, χ, ψ). Consonant clusters mp, nt and gk map to their Greek digraphs (μπ, ντ, γκ).
Greeklish support
Common greeklish shortcuts are supported: b → μπ and d → ντ, matching how Greek
speakers typically write informal Latin-character text.
Limitations
Greek has letters that share the same sound: η, ι and υ all sound like "i", and ο and ω both sound like "o". The converter defaults to ι for "i" and ο for "o". It also cannot add accent marks, since stress is not encoded in Latin text. For correct spelling with accents and the right vowel choice, use a Greek keyboard or dictionary.
Romanisation mapping
Uses the Speak Greek romanisation standard: spelling-based, not phonetic. The same conventions used throughout the course, so the converter and lessons stay consistent.
Greek to Latin
The reverse direction strips accents and produces the standard romanised form. Context-sensitive rules handle αυ/ευ (av/af, ev/ef depending on the following consonant).
